Location
Just outside the center city limits, at the top of Passeig de Gràcia, you will find the quaint town of Gràcia. It is the most distinctive Catalan neighborhood in the Barcelona area, and is a pleasant escape from the more metropolitan zones of the city. Wander through the streets of this cozy, yet wealthy, Barcelona suburb and find a plethora of charming restaurants, many of which boast fine international cuisine. Also, Gràcia is home to a collection of locally owned boutiques and small shops, as well as a movie theatre showing films in both Spanish and English.
The area is popular among local students, but has managed to avoid many of the tourist crowds. As a result, its bar scene remains lively and trendy, but retains its wholesomely Catalan atmosphere. Just to the north end of Gràcia is Gaudí's famous Park Güell, with breathtaking views of the Barcelona skyline, including the nearby Sagrada Família, the twin towers of Vila Olímpica, and the beaches that extend into the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. Gràcia offers a more relaxing way to experience Barcelona, and features many of Barcelona's luxury apartments, as well as convenient transportation for the 5 minute journey back to the heart of the city center.
