Location
Sitges is a picturesque coastal town, located 35 kilometers southwest of Barcelona. It can be reached in approximately 25 minutes by Renfe train from various different stations in Barcelona, with trains running to and from the Catalan capital roughly every half hour. Sitges was relatively unfrequented by tourists until the 1960s, when it became the Spanish center for the counter-culture revolution during Franco's regime. The town still retains much of its historical culture, some of which dates back to the Middle Ages. It has a number of beautiful churches and museums to visit, and holds many festivals and concerts throughout the year commemorating its rich cultural past.
In Sitges, you will find a variety of fantastic restaurants and bars lining the beautiful beaches. The town is a popular tourist attraction, and today, it is particularly renowned for its gay and lesbian culture and visitors, with many choosing to stay throughout the summer months. Sitges also hosts one of the biggest parties in Europe, Carnival, which consists of a week-long festival, similar to that of Mardi Gras. If you are thinking of coming to Barcelona with family, friends or a partner, and you would prefer to stay quieter location with plenty to see and do, then renting a Sitges apartment is a good option for you.
