Sitges is a picturesque coastal town, located 35 kilometres southwest of Barcelona. It is one of the most popular destinations on the Catalan coast for tourists due to its colourful festivals, cultural attractions and beautiful beaches and is situated around 30 minutes from Barcelona by Renfe train. During the 1960s, Sitges began to fill up with young residents and budding artists. Since then, the town has become a popular tourist attraction, and one which is also renowned for its gay and lesbian community. Many visitors have actually decided to relocate to the area, many of whom originate from countries in the north of Europe.
The town still retains much of its historical culture, some of which dates back to the Middle Ages. It has a number of beautiful churches and museums to visit, and also holds many festivals and concerts throughout the year. One of these is the famous Sitges Carnaval, a bright, week-long festival, often compared to Mardi Gras.
In Sitges, you will find a variety of fantastic restaurants and bars lining the beautiful beaches, as well as a vibrant nightlife. If you are thinking of coming to Barcelona with family, friends or a partner, and you would prefer to stay in a quieter location with plenty to see and do, then renting a Sitges apartment is a good option for you.
